STRING is a database of predicted functional associations among genes/proteins.
Genes of similar function tend to be maintained in close neighborhood ( ), tend to be present or absent together, i.e. to have the same phylogenetic occurrence ( ), and can sometimes be found fused into a single gene encoding a combined polypeptide ( ). STRING integrates this information from as many genomes as possible to predict functional links between proteins. The database currently contains 356775 genes in 110 species. |
